Seasonal Shifts. How do I transition into my Autumn wardrobe?
This was the more popular blog choice when I asked what you would like me to write about.
Here are a few seasonal shifts I stand by;
Unexpected balance
I love the slightly off balance unexpected look a move into a new season can give. I find it hard to put my summer sandals or flip flops away, I eek them out and wear them with a heavier styled bottom or top half. A sweatshirt, piece of knitwear, blazer or trench, or for the bottom a heavier weight trouser or jeans. The different textures and weights of fabrics on the body, and my feet still open and free, there’s something about this that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it feels good.
Palette progress
Slowly introduce one or two deeper, richer pieces alongside your favourites from the summer season rather than switching out entirely. Maybe that’s a new-season colour shirt paired with your favourite knee-length shorts, or a favourite summer top paired with a new-season trouser in a deeper shade. Either way works.
Multi purpose
A multi purposed item is a great investment at this time of year, a trusty wardrobe item that carries you between summer and autumn looks, and is ready for you to call upon when needed. A blazer, lightweight jacket, trench or super easy cardigan that you can grab and go and that’s there for you to reach for when you need it.
Footwear feels
If you’re ready to start swapping out your sandals, head for some loafers, lace up flats or a kitten heel shoe, a more formal foot covering can really uplift your favourite summer outfits, it’s like a change of scenery. Try it and you’ll see what I mean.
Cue your bag
Last but by no means least, your bag. This can do a similar thing to your footwear. If you’ve been in full wicker, canvas or mesh mode, then a handbag swap to something more structured, leather or a good vegan alternative, is a good way to usher you into autumn.
Enjoy the in-between.
